I had to share this. I wake up at 5:15 this morning, roll over, check my phone, and I have a missed call and a text from Annie, our Night Auditor. The power was out. Whaaaa? It was a crystal clear night!! I messaged her to see if it's back on, and told her if not, she would have to knock on people's doors that requested wake up calls, since the phones didn't work. The power was back on, thankfully, and everything was in working order. When I get to work, our GM was giggling, OMG, did you see why we lost power? I can't make this up. Here is the link if you wanna. This happened not too long ago with a snake. Chicken fried snake takes out power to City Welcome to Natchitoches, Louisiana!!!!

I have no idea why I feel the need to share this. For two weeks now, I have wanted to make a Facebook post about it, and then I think, "dude, no one cares!" The Braves have been in my life since I was 8 years old. Calling myself a hardcore fan was an understatement. I can name players from the late 80's through the early 2000's like I can recite the alphabet. I can tell you their full names, where they went to school, and how many times they have been on the DL. When I moved to Alabama, I got really spoiled, our Fox Sports was out of Atlanta so I never missed a game. When I moved back to Louisiana in 2010, I got nothing. It was seriously like drug withdrawal. As trivial as it may sound, it was like I got broken up with after a two-decade relationship. I tried every cable company, looked at online options...nothing. My only hope was a random ESPN game. One night I decided to find something to fill the void. I channel surfed and it ended up on hockey. If I was going to watch, I wanted to pick a team that a local channel would show regularly. I went to one team, I honestly can't remember which one, then I switched to the Dallas Stars, and there he was. Trevor Daley. I knew this was where I needed to be. I still watch regularly, although Trevor was traded in 2015, but no fear, Jamie Benn won my heart. The entire point of my blog is, we switched from DISH to Direct TV, and I got the sports package. There it was. Atlanta Braves baseball. For five glorious days I boasted and soaked in as much as I could. Only one player remains from when I last watched in 2010. I didn't care, I had them back. For 5 days. I went to watch a game, and it said it was blacked out. Weeks later, they're still blacked out. We've talked to no less than 4 different people, and it isn't actually Direct TV's fault. The team actually blacks them out, something about marketing, blah blah. I felt like a million bucks was right inside a glass case and I couldn't touch it. I was going through every channel of the Fox Sports channels cursing and pitching a baby fit because they were all blacked out. I found on ATTSW, the Astros were playing. They have three former Braves players, so I watched. The next day I watched. By day three I am hooked. I felt like a scum bag, like I was betraying the Braves, and if people found out, this would be like the LSU/Alabama thing all over again.
Yes, I switched teams because I dig Nick Saban. I've been called so many names, but mostly a "trader", spelled just like that. Whatever, I couldn't even name one you one player on the LSU team, and I really enjoy watching Alabama, so I felt zero guilt. Like a 13 year old girl (and many adults) I felt I needed to update my status, so on Twitter it now says Braves/Astros fan. I didn't want all of my Braves peeps to wonder why I was rooting for Orange. Last night they actually showed a Braves game. I was completely uninterested. What kind of person does that!? For real, I feel so disloyal to a team that I bled for over 30 years. I have no idea why I feel I need to get this off of my chest. I know it may sound ridiculous, people have real problems. But for me, having a team to watch and root for now isn't one of them.
Work, eat, sleep, church, and watching sports.
That has been my life as of late. I did finish a couple of books: When we switched to Direct TV I was so excited to be able to see the Braves again. For 4 days. Then all the games became blacked out. No one could give me a straight answer, but whatever, I am in this contract for 2 years. I started watching an Astros game, they have a local channel, and now I am hooked. The Braves will always be my team, but who says I can't have two? I blogged about it: That Time When the Braves Broke Up with Me

I was watching from the window at work, and was heckled into coming outside and watch through a welder's mask. It looked like Pac Man, then a crescent moon. I went in when a love bug flew up my nose. In a nutshell..... My friend Scott took this one:
I giggle....
The Lovebugs.....OMG
They show up every year. I have never witnessed anything as bad as this year. Facebook is flooded with everyone's pictures of their cars and houses engulfed by these little bastards. At work, it's impossible to keep them away.
We planned a weekend away a month or so ago, and at the last minute we changed destinations.
We ended up coming back to Tyler, Texas. In the middle of a hurricane.
Same trip as always. We ate at the same places, shopped in the same stores, stayed at the same hotel, fought the same fight.
I learned that at The Jalapeno Tree, when they offer you queso in either a bowl or a cup, go for the cup:
I may never poop again.
After a day of eating, shopping, and driving around in the rain, we called it a night. The Mayweather McGregor fight came and went. Meh. It is hard to watch all of the devastation going on with the flooding from Hurricane Harvey. We are currently under a flood warning here, but I think 10" is the most we are expected to get. My thoughts are prayer go out to everyone affected. *Maybe* I can redeem myself. This looked pretty simple, minimal ingredients. What you need: Approx 1/2 cup of sugar free peanut butter. If you don't want this sugar free, regular peanut butter is of course fine. I dumped 3 heaping scoops of peanut butter from the wooden ladle thing. 1 stick of softened butter. 8oz softened cream cheese. A pinch of salt (I used Kosher salt). Just over a teaspoon of vanilla. A swish of Stevia (or any sugar free sweetener). Just throw it all in a bowl, mix well. I of course started yelling for Scott, "OMG all of the *stuff* (edited for your virgin eyes/ears) is stuck in these mixing beater things!!!!! He saved the day. That is pretty much it. I transferred it to a smaller bowl and stuck some chocolate in it. For visual purposes only, no way I am going to eat that! I'm lying. There are so many things that you could use to dip this with, apples, carrots, celery, or even graham crackers. I'm just going to dive in with a spoon as soon as it cools in the fridge. Enjoy. |
