'Twas a cold and seasonal depression-like December. Work is slow during this time, I was at home a lot. Bailey said she could hear Levi going "uh oh" in his room. He learned he can't get out of his bed the same way he gets off of the couch. He could probably drink more than his weight in sweet tea. I haven't been to the Natchitoches Christmas Festival in years. We are not a people gathered in groups kind of family, but Lily went this year. The parade and shenanigans used to be fun, but now you have to pay for literally everything. Even to walk downtown. You can't even buy food from vendors, you have to buy tickets from the city, and pay the vendors with the tickets. Any leftover tickets? Tough titty. Jared and I went to Alexandria for no other reason to eat good food. We decided on Logan's Roadhouse. Now I am not making fun...but...there was this 45-50 year old guy at the bar. High noon. He had no food, other than the rolls they give you and a glass of beer. He would look around, and then take a selfie with the beer, holding it in one hand, while pointing at it with the other. When he finished the beer, he took another selfie with the empty glass. Maybe it was his first beer, IDK. Jared, not to be outdone.... I did find a bombass pair of shoes at Target that I had to talk myself out of buying. Very close to the pair that I had from 1995-2010ish. Our church had the annual Christmas party. These folks don't play when it comes to stealing your gift. Exodus 20:15, yo. The men in the church sang a hymn. Poor Papa on the end never could find the right page. A few days before Christmas I got a message that a lady that I used to work with for many years passed. I haven't seen many of the people that I worked with at the hotel in some time. We keep in touch on social media, but that is about it. Everyone scattered. Tina...well, she was mean. BUT, that is how you know that you were liked. She's probably the one coworker that hurt my feelings the most, but I would not trade it for anything. I will always miss her. Mrs. Miles passed away December 16, 2023, in Killeen, TX. She was born February 29, 1960, in Natchitoches, LA. Mrs. TENNER Marie Miles was born unto Mrs. Bessie Lee Williams White and Mr. Ernest White Sr. They both preceded her in death. TENNER confess Christ at an early age. She had three sisters and two brothers that preceded her in death as well. She leaves to cherish her memories: her son, Oliver Miles IV of Clarksville, TN, Bernard Miles of Natchitoches, LA; her two grandsons, Bernard, and Malachi both of Natchitoches, LA. She also leaves four sisters to cherish her memories, Donna Williams of West Virginia, Gaylon White Ray (James) of Killeen TX, Shirley Adams Jackson of Natchitoches LA, and Marilyn Ann White of Natchitoches LA; six brothers, Ronald Williams of Natchitoches LA, Timothy White (Rhonda) of Harker Heights TX, Kenneth White (Connie) of Natchitoches LA, Eddie White (Enid) of Carlsbad, NM, Luther White of Natchitoches LA, and Ernest White Jr. (Deloris) of Natchitoches LA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A few days before Christmas I told Jared that we would meet up after work and go downtown to see the lights, and take a Christmas picture. Because of before mentioned reasons, I have not been downtown at Christmastime in a few years. We get down there, and I then see that now you can't drive through to look at the lights on the Riverbank. You have to park somewhere else and then walk. Now I don't mind walking, and I know Jared would have gladly done it, but I just left. Heaven forbid the town let you do something for free. When we got home, he went into the bathroom, wet and combed his hair, he put on my favorite shirt and his church watch. He took the bathrobe and covered the tv to make it "Christmasy", and then he told me to smile, that we were taking our picture. It was the smallest of gestures, but to me, it was one of the sweetest things that has been done for me. I cooked. Christmas finally came. We had Christmas Eve Dinner here at home, us and the kids. Jared was having difficulty setting the timer on his phone, so he went about it the easy way. A video. That I screenshotted. We then went to my mother's house and possibly ate again. And then it was Christmas. We didn't take any pictures at home opening stockings, but when we finished that we went back to my mother's to watch Lily and Levi open their gifts and eat Christmas Dinner. At 10:00am. Whatever, we had a tight schedule. After that we went to my in-laws and exchanged gifts. No one here takes family pictures, so for 3 years this is what I get. LOL! A couple of days after Christmas my sisters, Levi, and Lily went to eat at my favorite place, and had to pick up a few things at the Walmart. Being a buffet, everyone took turns waiting with Levi while your plate got fixed. When it was just he and I, he was like, "um, guys! Hey. Um, come back?" I mean turning all the way around like an owl looking for anyone that wasn't me. A few collected pictures that I am too lazy to upload individually. So all in all, we had a good Christmas.
Several gifts still haven't arrived, but I gave out sticky notes. It wasn't a bad year. My family is healthy-ish, the Escape made it through, I still have a job that I love, and most importantly... THE DEER HEAD IS OUT OF THE WORK FREEZER!!!!!

Not a whole lot went on this month. I turned a year older. I got COVID. I missed Thanksgiving with my family. Levi took his kinda first step. It doesn't count though, I wasn't there. I have an abundance of cute Levi and Lily pictures. I got a couple of cute Jared pictures as well. I turned the big 45. The Day was good. We went to eat at one of my favorite places, did a little shopping, and then napped. The possum that absolutely does not belong to us or to any relative is getting fatter and uglier by the day. I wished that I could have known Jared when we were kids. Just look at him. Ryan Blaney won the NASCAR Cup Championship. So one morning Jared an I wake up feeling a little puny. The next day he had to go to the doctor, and then he comes out and says, "I tested positive for COVID". Lame. I tested negative, and didn't feel all that bad. On day 3. I knew it was bad. I then tested positive. Can. We. Not.
"Hey Lisa, how are you feeling?" Probably the worst I have felt in years. I lived. I missed 10 days of work. Do you know what happened while I was gone? THE DEER HEAD IS FINALLY GONE FROM THE FREEZER!!!!!!!!!!! That's all I got for now. |
